About Us
Dealer Intel is one of many approved dealer education providers that offers education programs to those applying for or renewing a vehicle dealer license. What sets us apart from our competitors is we do not encourage every person who wants a dealer license to apply for one. Inexperienced applicants are prone to fail because they underestimate how much time, money, education, and experience is needed to operate a successful dealership. For this reason, we encourage all applicants to work for a new or used car dealership for a few years before applying for a dealer license. Experienced applicants better understand what they are getting themselves into.
In a perfect world, the state would not issue a professional license until an applicant demonstrates competence in all aspects of a particular vocation. This can be accomplished by going to school and working in the field for a few years. Such a policy would put each applicant in the best position to succeed and protect the public from incompetent licensees. Regrettably, most professional licenses can be attained if an applicant demonstrates minimal competence. States use a minimal competence standard for a number of reasons. First, it’s inexpensive and relatively easy to administer. Applicants can attain a license by completing a short preliminary education program and passing a multiple-choice exam. Second, it reduces barriers to entry. When standards are low, almost anyone can qualify for a license. Third, incompetent licensees will be held accountable if they violate the law. Licensees are expected to continue educating themselves to fill in the gaps upon being licensed. If they do not, law violations are inevitable. A licensee is subject to administrative, civil and criminal enforcement actions if they violate the law.
A dealer license cannot transform an amateur into a fully competent vehicle dealer. Proceed with caution.
